It is a large village of more than 3,600 inhabitants, built around an Arab fortress dominating an arid landscape, covered here and there with palm trees, agaves, cactus and prickly pear trees. Its desert covers 12,000 ha with an average of 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, which justifies the presence of the largest solar power plant in Spain. But this unique and uncluttered setting reminiscent of the Arizona desert has been the setting for many filmmakers for films such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Seven Mercenaries or The Oilwomen, and many spaghetti westerns. Sets of towns in the Wild West come to life again today.
