Known for its famous red marble that is found in the mosque of Cordoba, Cabra is located in the foothills of the Sierra Subbética, with the tip of the Picacho on the horizon, where the hermitage of the Virgen de la Sierra nestles. Remains from the Paleolithic period make it one of the oldest settlements in the region, but it was not until the 3rd century BC that it entered Roman orbit as Igabrum. The castle of the Counts of Cabra, the baroque church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, which preserves the plan of a mosque, the beautiful Casco Blanco where the Semana Santa (Holy Week) is held and its stately homes are all worth a visit.
