BAR ESTRELLA

Spanish restaurant
4.3/5
3 reviews

Easily disoriented in the maze of streets and alleys of Alfafa, some people discover this traditional bar, inaugurated in 1939, by chance, others often confess to being accustomed to the place with its magnificent azulejos. Well away from the sterile hustle and bustle, at the counter, in the dining room, or on the terrace, you'll be spoilt for choice, pick from its large slates of Rabelaisian tapas of the day: vegetable moussaka, fried supions, flamenquín, solomillo skewers, tapada eggplant... These croquettes are all as famous as the vintage photos of Seville on display.

At the foot of the Giralda, the restaurant, which hides behind its yellow façade, has been serving Sevillian specialties since the late 1980s, served with élan in a retro Andalusian setting. On the terrace or through the windows, the cathedral and its stream of tourists are there before our eyes. The menu, which includes a mix of international dishes and typical recipes (bull's tail, paella...), offers a wide choice and uses quality products! Over the years, the restaurant has won a number of awards.

Located near Plaza Nueva and Calle Tetuán, this is a very pleasant restaurant that also doubles as a tapas bar. Its gastronomic quality is guaranteed by the fact that its menu features many specialties from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a town renowned for its fish, seafood and fragrant manzanilla. Don't hesitate to try the fine, crispy tortilla de camarones or the gambas al ajillo. Finish with Santa Fé piononos for dessert. A selection of fine wines too.

It is a must in the Alfalfa district. Since 1955 this popular restaurant has been serving its local cuisine to its customers, including the famous snails(caracoles y cabrillas), as well as fried fish. One sits in a room with a history or outside in a recess near the plaza de Alfalfa and is soon served in a relaxed atmosphere. No disappointment in the program, the menu is well stocked, the cuisine is consistent and at the end of the meal, everyone leaves satisfied. A friendly welcome by a good team.

In this restaurant located not far from Plaza Nueva, we recommend the palmitos con salmón, hearts of palm topped with a thin slice of marinated salmon and the cheeses... which are tempting, even under the cloche. On the menu and available as tapas, there are shrimp salads (ensaladilla de gambas), hot chickpeas in sauce with chorizo and different traditional tortillas or tuna pie. Not to mention that the house wine is very good. A guarantee of quality, the establishment is frequented by pure Sevillans.

Just a short walk from Plaza San Leandro, this is one of Seville's historic taverns that offers excellent, authentic and inexpensive tapas. Among a wide range of Sevillian specialities you can choose the solomillo al whisky,, which you can accompany with a glass of tinto or a beer. Here, the portions are copious and can be enjoyed at the counter in a local colourful setting or on the terrace in a pretty square with trees. Attentive service. Ideal for taking the pulse of this calle feria, one of Seville's up-and-coming streets. And ideal too for beer lovers, given its reputation as a "temple" of good beer, which flows easily. Serve with a tapeo of mussels, cod, traditional Andalusian mojama, a fillet of dried tuna and a few olives. And let's not forget the house vermouth, with its orangey taste, which is also very famous. And it's all done standing up, even if a few tables and chairs have been added. But every pleasure is worth its trouble...

Its terrace with large stools is as successful as its typical renovated interior. Near the cathedral, an excellent small tavern with a classical appearance but still well frequented. The art of serving good wines, a quality reception and simple but dignified cuisine. Everything is homemade, from tapas to desserts and main courses. The best thing about this restaurant is the place it offers next to the wall protecting the Alcázar: a 17th century house with a typical patio whose charm lies in its rooms, but above all in its oasis garden around an old well, with a fountain and a round stone table, with misting on hot days. On the menu, chef Lorenzo Hernández's preparations: quail salad with pickled vegetables or carillada de cerdo ibérico. A delicious stop in the neighbourhood. For the lunchtime tapo, a corner has been set up in the gallery.

This authentic and colourful place around the square is always full. Make your choice and order at the bar. There is everything: tapas a la plancha (we recommend the mero a la plancha, nice portion), cold fried or hot tapas, as well as montaditos (small sandwiches). The sauces are tasty, especially the patatas bravas and albondigas (meatballs in sauce served with chips). Enough to satisfy the big appetites, without disappointing the fine mouths. Also a beautiful terrace on the square.

Tiled floor, very large counter in carved wood and white marble, trianeros tiles, beautiful posters of feria and bullfighting and a small space converted into a restaurant... the charm of this house dating from 1880 is intact. Tapas and dishes are on the menu, including bull tail(cola de toro) or Tío Diego stew, the house specialty. The result is an old-fashioned atmosphere that transports the customer to the Triana of yesteryear. This is a must in the neighborhood, because even if it is a bit expensive for Triana, the tapeo is still accessible.

This house was founded in 1917 and used to welcome bullfighters, footballers and poets who came to play cards. In fact, its name refers to the colour of a card. After a refurbishment, the establishment reopened its doors at the end of July 2014, in a still classic decor. On the menu, meat and fish a la plancha or in papillotes. And the Huelva specialities are succulent: prawn tortillas, courgettes stuffed with seafood, squid meatballs (albondigas) washed down with fruity white wine...
