This small agricultural town, located at an altitude of 1,300 meters, is much less touristic than Boquete. A nice road, very winding and with beautiful hills (be careful especially in rainy weather), connects the two towns in 1 hour 30 minutes (without passing through David). Originally, Volcán was populated by descendants of Swiss immigrants, the Duncan and Lambert families, who strongly influenced the architecture of the region, with its cottages with sloping roofs. Today, it is inhabited by an Indian and mixed population and a few expatriates who appreciate the mild climate. Unlike Boquete, most of the foreigners speak Spanish and are well integrated into the life of the village. Volcán is a good base to explore the highlands of Chiriquí, on foot, on horseback, by bike...
