This small fishing village is the easiest point of access to Golfo de Chiriquí National Park. Until the construction of the Pan-American Highway in the 1960s, the only access to Boca Chica was via canals through the mangroves. These waterways still exist today, and are excellent fishing grounds. The climate is drier and sunnier than in the rest of Chiriquí, making it a prime destination for beach and bathing enthusiasts. Just 20 minutes from Boca Chica, on the mainland, you'll find two wild beaches, Playa Hermosa and Playa Gavilla. But it's above all by sea that you'll appreciate the hundreds of islands and islets of black, grey, yellow and ochre rock, set against the green of the vegetation and the blue of the ocean.
