Quneitra (Recovered) is a ghost city in Syria. It can be seen in particular from this very popular point of view located on Route No. 98, about 15 km south of Mas'ada.Quneitra was until 1967 the largest city in the Syrian Golan, before being conquered by Israel on the last day of the Six Day War. Resumed by Syria in 1973 during the Yom Kippur war, it again fell to Israeli hands in an offensive. Finally, Quneitra was destroyed in 1974 during the Israeli withdrawal. Today, it is in the demilitarized zone separating Israel from Syria. The Syrian Government wished to leave it as proof of the damage suffered during the conflict. At the back of the ghost city, a new city with the same name was constructed: New Recovered. The latter is perfectly visible from Mount Hermonit, more north. Also see, in front of Lookout, a UN camp located at the boundary of the border and, towards the right, Mount Bnei Rasen and its wind farm. At the foot of the Lookout, a Pédagogique volcanic park, Avital Volcanic Park, was opened in 2013.
