On the Lebanese border, it is Israel's northernmost locality. Created in 1896 by Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Metula is a charming village situated on a chain of hills looking at the Hermon and overlooking the green plains of Galilee. Near is the Good Fence, the "Good fence", which, as the proverb says, "makes good neighbours". It marks the border with Lebanon and has been closed since the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon in 2000. Metula houses several hotels and guest houses, most of which are located around Harishonim street, at the top of the village, which has preserved old stone houses. A small agricultural museum tells the story of the village. In the west of the village stands a hill of 615 m above sea level where an observatory offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area and southern Lebanon.
