Leaving the forest of Étang-Salé, the panorama on the South opens and reveals the immense plain formed between the sides of the two volcanoes. Saint-Louis is the first large city in the South coming from the West, and extends over a vast territory. If the city centre is of little interest to the tourist, its surroundings have many attractions! Like the Gol plain with its sugar factory which can be visited and the pond of the same name. Higher up, the village of Les Makes is a beautiful bucolic walk, and there are many guest houses and gites. Finally, climb a little further to reach the Fenêtre, a superb viewpoint over Cilaos.
