A greenhouse is a summit generally rounded and soft, in contrast to the peak summits found in the high mountain. Appreciated by families, the Alpe du Grand Serre station is located on the top of a pass, between the Romansh Valley and the Roizonne valley. Framed by the Taillefer massif (2 857 metres altitude) and the mountain of the Grand Serre (2 141 metres above sea level), it is located in the Dead commune at 1 368 metres above sea level and consists of six hamlets: Chabotte, La Cascade, Le Couvent, Jean-Poncet, Le Desert and La Blache, which is the centre of tourism and shopping. The first facilities dedicated to skiers were created in 1938 with the construction of the Petit Mollard ski lift. After repairing the damage suffered during the war, the station grew in size in the 1960 s. It was then the name of Alpe du Grand Serre (see box). The station, formerly managed by the commune of the Dead, is now exploited by the tourist planning company Alpe d'Huez grand estate. The landscape consists of farms grouped in hamlets in favourable locations, which means that they are well protected from the avalanches, close to a watercourse, encroaching at a minimum on agricultural land. The ski area is organised around the Massif massif, which is 2 184 metres away - the difference is 817 metres to the station. The tracks run around its summit, which offers a beautiful panorama of the surrounding mountains. Note: The bottom of the slopes is snowy thanks to cannons. For children, two learning areas are located in La Blache, while the smallest will benefit from a stop-daycare. The 6-12 years have the pleasure of enrolling in a club that allows them to discover the surrounding nature (snow snowshoe route on the theme of animals in our mountains), to perform igloos, to follow trappers, to recognize fingerprints and trace of animals, or to participate in games of snow… Cross-country skiing, you have the opportunity to browse one. a preserved and authentic nature thanks to this technique of sliding. You will enjoy the viewpoints and privacy of bois. If you want to vary the pleasures, you can be sure that you can start skiing or snowshoes, but also off piste, with many itineraries available and at all levels. Hiking is also possible with various pedestrian circuits of varying length (2,5 km, 3 km or 5 km with heritage discovery).
