Oriol, a small village at 375 meters d´altitude, leaning against the Monts du Matin, is bathed by the Lyonne at l´orée from the wooded hills. L´origine named d´Oriol could come, according to some specialists, from "Orian", a place exposed to the rising sun. A Roman road passes through the town to reach Léoncel. This was once the only link between the two municipalities. In the heart of the village is a Romanesque church and, on the same square, there is also a beautiful stone fountain. One of the particularities of d´Oriol is that the town hall, surrounded by the 2 classes of l´école primary, was built on the 45th parallel.
