Like many villages in the Alps, this former border town between Savoie and France is marked by its military architecture. Of the mighty walls that have encircled the town since the 13th century, almost nothing remains today. On the contrary, the fortifications built by the architects appointed by Vauban in the late 17th century have remained intact. Of particular note are the Fort de Savoie to the east and the Fort de France to the west. The latter, contrary to the plans usually drawn up by the famous engineer, is not built in a star pattern. A stroll through this small village of just 400 inhabitants is very pleasant.
