Former sub-prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes at the confluence of the Roudoule and the Var, Puget-Théniers is a small regional capital. In the 19th century, many factories kept the town alive: tanneries, weaving mills, oil and flour mills. After an inexorable decline, the opening of the road and railroad gave a second wind to Puget-Théniers which relies more on tourism and the many outdoor activities (hiking, via ferrata, white water) and its sports complex (swimming pool, fitness) than on industry to ensure its future. The old town is located on the right bank of the Roudoule.
