Boivre-la-Vallée is a new commune born in 2019 from the merger of Benassay, La Chapelle-Montreuil, Lavausseau and Montreuil-Bonnin. These villages are linked by the river Boivre, etymologically "La rivière aux Castors". The Sentier des Castors hiking trails allow you to discover the different aspects of the river: its calm, its mysteries, its variety of landscapes and viewpoints. Legend has it that the castle at Montreuil-Bonin was built by the famous fairy Mélusine. Richard the Lionheart settled here at the end of the 12th century, and Eleanor of Aquitaine also stayed here. A visit not to be missed! Lavausseau is famous for its ancient tanneries.
