As part of the community of municipalities of the Val de Somme, Le Hamel has, like so many other villages in the region, passed through history. It was indeed the scene of clashes during the First World War during which it was partially destroyed. The Australian Memorial Corps was built in honour of the Australian soldiers who died in the battle of July 4, 1918. Its church houses two relics listed as Historic Monuments, a pulpit to preach in stone and metal and a confessional.
