The department's leading wine-growing commune, Charly-sur-Marne spreads its hillsides over more than 320 hectares of appellation. Pinot meunier flourishes here, accounting for no less than 80% of the surface area. This pretty little town of 2,500 inhabitants is the perfect place for bucolic idleness. The hillsides are lined with footpaths, the Marne unfolds its charms and the Rue du Faubourg de Villiers is worth a look for its remains of the former Cordeliers convent. Absolutely everything here invites you to live to the sound of champagne bubbles. The vineyards have their own fair. It takes place every year for two days in September.
