Cerny-en-Laonnois, a must-see for historians, boasts a number of monuments dedicated to the memory of the soldiers who fell in the First World War. The first is the chapel, with its many commemorative plaques. Opposite, the lantern of the dead shines a permanent flame symbolizing the sacrifice of those who fell on the battlefields. On the other side of the road is the Cerny-en-Laonnois national necropolis, where over 5,150 French and 54 Russian servicemen are buried. Adjacent to the national necropolis is a German necropolis housing 5,125 remains.
