The village takes its name from "Mons Mirabilis", "mount from which one admires" or "admirable mount, visible from afar". Montmirail is a village with a rich historical and cultural heritage which has earned it the distinction of "Petite Cité de Caractère". Its fortress, a high historical site, overlooks this preserved village with remarkable buildings combining brick and stone. Several gites and guest rooms are available for rent in the village. And if Montmirail has less than 500 inhabitants, its castle gives it a sacred presence.
