Massérac is very much linked to the history of Brittany. The commune borders the administrative region that bears this name, the commune is located at the confluence of the Don and the Vilaine. Massérac is covered with important marshes, within which is located the lake of Murin. The village is imbued with the memory of its founder, Saint Benoît, as evidenced by the chapel that bears his name. The agricultural vocation of Massérac is gradually diminishing, the economic activity is diversifying, especially in tourism. The demographic decline that began in the early 20th century was reversed in the 2000s.
