Formerly named Laeviacum, the village of Legé recalls its Gallo-Roman origins. Located at the far south of the department of Loire-Atlantique, at the limit of the Vendée, it was part of the common steps of Brittany and Poitou, a situation that allowed it to take advantage of these influence struggles and obtain privileges: no militia, no size, no tax. On 11 March 1793, the commune took the opportunity to seize the furniture of the Retail Castle and hit the wars of Vendée. It is taken successively by Charette and then by the Republicans and on many occasions. To have his victory over Machecoul, of Charrette, established his headquarters. Legé is the victim of the fierce fighting and devastated. Places and monuments refer to the presence of Charrette: a road has its name and a chapel was built in its memory. The Retail castle and Château Chevalier castle are part of the heritage to be discovered.
