Belfort-du-Quercy, a 13th-century bastide, was founded by the de Penne family around a castle and two watchtowers. Destroyed over the centuries, the small medieval bastide was long abandoned. A second, more modern village sprang up on a plateau in the Quercy Blanc region. Admired for its old white stone buildings, Belfort-du-Quercy holds a few treasures in its keeping. These include the 15th-century Saint-Jean-des-Arcades chapel and the fully restored traditional Loubéjac bread oven. There are many other little nuggets to discover on a stroll through the village and surrounding area.
