The Columban monastery was founded on the ruins of a Gallo-Roman oppidum by St. Amé and St. Romaric. The heights of Saint-Amé offer a vast panorama of the Saint-Mont, overlooking the Moselle and Moselotte valleys above Remiremont. The Saint-Mont can be reached on foot via the enigmatic Pont des Fées. Its chapel contains a Merovingian sarcophagus found on site. Continue your walk to the Sainte-Sabine site. Nearby, 1 km away, is the mysterious Kerlinkin stone, a gigantic red sandstone monolith weighing 132 tonnes. The Grand Rocher de Saint-Amé also offers a superb view.
