There's a certain mystery to Darney and its forest of curious Celtic sites. A forest steeped in history, which in the 1st millennium served as a border between the Leuc tribe and the Sekan people. Today, vestiges of the divinatory cult remain: south of the small town of Escles, a place is known as the Vallon druidique. The Romans then introduced Christianity. Overlooking the Saône valley, Darney is famous for its cutlery factory, its Franco-Czechoslovak museum (housing the former state's declaration of independence), its former convent and its beautiful houses. It's also a hiker's paradise.
