The village of Kilstett was one of these numerous small agglomerations which, since Antiquity, had been established between the Ried and the Rhine on a band of fertile alluvial deposits, crossed by dry roads, apart from the great floods. Moreover, the remains of Roman origin found in the surrounding gravel pits indicate that there were settlements in the vicinity as early as the first centuries of our era. A Roman tomb found on the site, whose objects are kept in the archaeological section of the Château Rohan in Strasbourg, proves the existence of the village even before the arrival of the Franks in Gaul.
