At the confluence of the Gardon and its tributary, the Galeizon, Cendras is a former mining commune of almost 2,000 inhabitants. Cendras was founded in the 10th century as a Benedictine abbey with 80 monks and 150 priests, and the beginning of coal mining which provided the abbey with a mandatory income. There is an old fortified site: the 14th century Puech tower, the Pont des Camisards, and the fortified Romanesque abbey church, a plant exchange thanks to the association of the Galeizon gardens, and an eco-museum. Finally, don't miss the visit of Biosphera: the interpretation center of the Cevennes valleys.
