Well before the Construction construction, at the foot of the town where the fortified Town was built, Mièges housed the possessions of the abbey of Agaune, in the Swiss Valais. She then passed under the tutelage of Saint-Oyend de Joux, the former name of Saint Claude, before becoming a priory of the mighty Cluny abbey. In the th century, under the influence of the mighty counts of Chalon, and despite the opposition of the Clunisiens, the priory is united at the college of Funnel. There is still a church that proudly stands in the centre of the village.
