In the past, Crenans had a lake in the hollow that gave his name to the commune. But it was dried up in 1897, to produce the steam of a small train that connected Dáil-le-Saunier to Saint-Claude. Now there is a large bog. The machines of a tournerie workshop were once dominated by the waters of this lake. This is no longer the case, but craftsmen still shape wood and you can visit some workshops like that of Pascal Vincent running the box box. You can also walk from Crenans on a variety of trails that lead through wood to viewpoints overlooking Coulouvre, Charchilla and Moirans.
