This rural commune was first mentioned in 1153. This marked the boundary between the County of Burgundy and the empire of Frederick Barbarossa. It borders Switzerland, on the road and rail links from Pontarlier to Neuchâtel via the Val de Travers in Switzerland. For a long time, it was dotted with hamlets and "lieux-dits". Here you'll find the 18th-century church of Saint-Sébastien, topped by its characteristic Comtois bell tower.
