An ancient Gallo-Roman town, Condé-en-Brie is located at the confluence of several steep valleys. The Surmelin, the Dhuys and the Verdonnelle meet there. Property of the Sires of Coucy in the 13th century, Condé-en-Brie came into the hands of François de Bourbon, Count of Vendôme, upon his marriage to Marie de Luxembourg in 1487. Their son Louis, bishop of Laon in 1510, Cardinal de Bourbon-Vendôme, had the castle rebuilt around 1530-1540.To see: the original Romanesque bell tower rising above the valley, unique in France. In the fields, then, spreads an aqueduct with 16 arches extended by a tower with battlements of feudal inspiration.
