The commune of Avenay-Val-d'Or is home to a very rich natural heritage. There are 726 species on the territory, of which 84 are protected and 14 are threatened. To observe them, there is nothing like a walk in its natural zones of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest: the Bois des Chauffes to the north of the village and Fontaine-sur-Ay, the woods of Mount Hurlet and Carabilly in the Lingonne valley which are home to beautiful species of orchids, the underground quarry of Mount Hurlet, a place of hibernation for several species of bats and the savarts and pine forests from the Escaliers de Bisseuil to the Noue des Gendarmes to the east of Avenay-Val-d'Or.
