Nouâtre is a rural commune of the department of Indre-et-Loire of approximately 800 inhabitants. The settlement of men in the region is very old, since the Paleolithic. In Gallo-Roman times, Nouâtre was located on the Roman Via Publica, a major north-south communication route in the immediate vicinity of the Vienne. Nouâtre is bordered by the Vienne and the Creuse and crossed by the Réveillon. Amongst its monuments are the church of Saint-Léger (with its fresco of Saint-Révérend), the church of Saint-Jean de Noyers, the abbey of Notre-Dame de Noyers (founded in 1030) and an ancient castle, first mentioned in 925 (and restored several times)!
