This large town, close to the Vallée Noire, owes its name to its imposing 11th-century basilica. Built in imitation of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and dedicated to Saint James, the church was restored by Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century. It is an important stopover on the route to Santiago de Compostela. It is also home to the very active Société de Pomologie, which owns three conservatory orchards and organizes training courses. A major event is held here every October: the Apple Days. Last but not least, the town is famous for its organic fair, which takes place on the last weekend of August: make sure you stop by!
