Read moreIt was on the initiative of a local goldsmith and notable local, Jean Boyer, this alley was converted in 1848 into a walkway covered with iron and glass hence its nickname: "the glass street." The ground floor is a succession of small clothing stores, shoes and accessories. We like the old tailor and the shoes with Italian brands. A double row of buildings in regular order. It is located in the city center, close to the halls. Worthy of the Italian Bologna, these halls are an obligatory passage in Carpentras. One will equally find a very good fishmonger, a gardener, a tea room, a bakery and an excellent library.

THE HARBOUR AREA
Read moreUntil the th century, Nice had no port: it was dug at the initiative of King Charles-Emmanuel III in Lympia Cove, to the east of the hill hill, where there is so far an important marsh zone. The work began in 1749 thanks to the military engineer Antonio-Felice Devincenti (from Turin, 1690-1778) who expands and deepens the marshy lake. Opened for navigation in November 1751, it will be a small shelter for almost a hundred years to reach its final dimensions around 1880, when it tînt an important role in the export of local products. At this same time, many painters of passage to Nice, croquèrent, designed and peignirent in all the seams: Ernest Louis Carelli (1848-1925), Gabriel Carelli (1821-1900) and Charles Martin-Sauvaigo (1881-1970), with their fishing scenes and their accents represented in vibrating tones. Between the 1940 s and 1970 s, several improvements allowed it to host larger vessels, improving also links with Corsica. In the vicinity you will notice the Place de l'Île-de-Beauté, bordered by buildings with porticos red facades fortified with bas-reliefs and balconies, and the church Notre-Dame du Port completed in 1853 and built by the architect Jules Febvre, which is itself framed by the houses Pius-Astraudo and Honoré Malbequi, respectively from 1844-50 and 1885-90. Cassini Street in the north-west offers a very valuable concentration of antique dealers for those interested in paintings, trinkets or beautiful antique furniture. Today, the port of Nice is France's first cement port, in conjunction with the galets treatment plants of the Paillon valley. As a second cruise port in France, more than 500 000 passengers per year embark on a journey to Corsica. It has a fishing-related economic activity and hosts a significant number of boaters. From 1 June to 30 September, it is possible to take walks at sea from the port Lympia and discover the promenade of the English and the Baie des Anges as a whole.

For this reason, it is classified as a Historical Monument. Cheaper, free look at the only half-timbered house in the city dated 14th-15th centuries. Superb!

CEMENT HILL
Read moreAfter serving as a defensive place for centuries because of its height, the hill at Ruins takes its letters of nobility in the th century with the development of winter tourism. In fact, this district develops from the 1880 s under the impetus of the arrival of the aristocrats and English crowned heads. This tourist development is favoured by the annexation of Nice to France by Napoleon III and by the arrival of the railway that désenclave Nice, and links it to many cities in Europe.
This new population, made up of the largest European fortunes, favours a large real estate boom. Indeed, staying in Nice for long stays most often, these aristocrats have accommodation needs, and hotels of the Promenade des Anglais are no longer enough. A large urban project is then launched and it is decided to build a luxury residential area on the hill of Ruins, then covered with farms and fields of olive trees. Henri Germain, then the director of Crédit Lyonnais, who became the sponsor, is sponsoring most hotels and palaces. He appealed to the services of his friend, the architect Sébastien Marcel Biasini very much in vogue at the time. The stones are extracted from the quarry at the level of the Carabacel district.
The district of Ruins is built around a triumphal path, the boulevard of Ruins, a former Roman path leading to the ancient city of Cemenelum. Surrounded by plane trees, as is the tradition since Louis XIV, the avenue is crowned by the hotel at the Regina Palace. Along the boulevard, you can enjoy different architectural styles, ranging from neoclassical rigour to various eastern influences, through the revision of Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI style. From the First World War, the neighborhood sees its prestige decline. The fortunes of the European aristocracy are being damaged by the war and most of the winterers are leaving the Côte d'Azur. The hotels are then divided into apartments and sold. Now the district no longer lives at the rhythm of the splendour of the Belle Epoque and becomes residential. However, today we can admire the numerous palaces preserved in the state, witness to this prosperous period of Nice history.
GARIBALDI SQUARE
Read moreLocated between the Old-Nice and the port district this elegant th century square, was the first extension from the old town to the new city. LA PLACE MASSENA
Read moreInaugurated in 1824, it was built at the Marshal of France. Its beauty, size and location make it the heart of the city. Recently, taking advantage of the work of the tram service, the esplanade was completely refurbished at a cost of EUR 14 million. This ambitious project, entrusted to architect Bruno Fortier, consisted of restoring its full splendour in respect of its neoclassical architecture.
Semi circular to the south and rectangular to the north, it was first made to pedestrians. Nestled on the ground with a black and white mineral paving, delimiting a wide promenade, it lends itself to modern and épuré urban furniture. The renovation of facades and arcades enabled him to rediscover his red-blue contrast of yesteryear. To the south, the Sun Fountain made new skin and was given water. Finally, two rows of parasols pines in Tuscany symbolizing the banks of the Paillon and allowing a shaded walk have been planted.
In February during the carnival period, the Place Massena colours a thousand lights and lights. With a forest of stands, it becomes the point of passage - and very appreciated - of tanks and battles of flowers of corso.
