BOTANICAL GARDEN

Parks and gardens
4.5/5
12 reviews

The botanical garden is located in the east of the city, about 2 km from the centre, on the heights. It can be reached on foot, by the carretera del Botánico, or by bus. Founded in 1788, this garden, one of the most important in the world, is mainly a acclimatation garden: You won't discover Canary flora, but you'll get wandering in shady walks by trees in Africa, Asia or Latin America. For example, the Canary Palm will be compared to other members of his family. A pleasant corner of green where it makes good strolls.

Volcanic island - last activity in the middle of the 18 th century - from the Canary Archipelago with long beaches of golden sand to the south towards Yaiza, including the beach of Papagayo but also the beaches nearby such as the Caleta Larga. We can also mention black sand beaches: Quemada to the southeast and the small coves by crossing the path to the south starting from the village or that of Janubio, adjacent to the salt marshes. In the north of the island, the coves of white sand among the shredded blocks of black lava in Orzola.

Plagistes build "bunkers" in basalt blocks to protect themselves from the wind that can blow strong. Finally, in the north-west, the long beach Del below the cliff of the mirador del Rio: more than 200 m distance from a very practicable road but a great walk and tranquility. In the vicinity, the long Pebble Beach of Famara.

PUERTO DE LAS NIEVES

10 reviews

The Puerto de Las Nieves is home to the Ermita de Las Nieves, a small chapel built in the early 16th century by Anton Cerezo - an Italian who had obtained land in Agaete in the distribution that took place after the conquest. During the month of August, you can admire the 16th century triptych that its founder brought from Flanders. The rest of the year, it is kept in the church of Agaete. From the original chapel, only the sanctuary and the coffered ceiling remain. You can also enjoy, not far from the pier, the pretty white houses with blue shutters that have kept all their authenticity. Puerto de Las Nieves also has two small beaches that are perfect for refreshing themselves.

Agüimes, located in the province of Las Palmas in Spain, is a charming town divided into three distinct parts: the summit, agriculture and the coast. In the historic center of Agüimes, visitors can admire the Temple Paroissial de San Sebastián, a neoclassical building declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument. Nearby is the Hotel Casa de los Camellos, a three-hundred-year-old building that once belonged to an aristocratic family. In the Plaza de San Antón, you'll find the Centro d'Interpretación d'Agüimes, where you can learn more about the city's architecture, art and history. The Palacio Epicopal, now home to the Agüimes History Museum and the Parque de los Moros, is also worth a visit. For nature lovers, the area around Agüimes offers magnificent landscapes, such as Temisas, with its mountains and olive grove, and Guayadeque, a deep ravine home to a troglodyte village and restaurants carved out of the rock. Finally, Agüimes also offers beaches, including Playa de Vargas, renowned for extreme windsurfing, and Playa d'El Cabrón, ideal for scuba diving. Timanfaya National Park offers visitors impressive and unique volcanic landscapes. Volcanic eruptions between 1720 and 1736, as well as in 1824, have shaped this exceptional geological park. The absence of vegetation, the rugged shapes, the variety of colors and the imposing volcanoes give Timanfaya an extraordinary beauty. To discover the park, visitors can start at the Visitor Center in Mancha Blanca, which offers free exhibitions and an audiovisual program to better understand the park. Montañas del Fuego offers complete immersion in the volcanic world, with geothermal demonstrations and a bus tour included in the entrance fee. Visitors can also take a camel ride at the Echadero de camellos, which also houses a museum and information point. Hiking trails are also available for exploring the park on foot. It is important to respect the environment and not disturb the animals or damage the natural elements.

THE CALETÓN DE GARACHICO

This is surely the most pleasant activity when you are in Garachico: swimming in its natural pools. It was the last eruption of the Trevejo volcano, which occurred in 1706 and buried a large part of the village. When it erupted into the sea, it created these natural pools that bear the name of the caletón rock. Except in case of high tide, you can swim there without any problem, as the natural pools are of all sizes, even for the little ones, and finish the day in the restaurants located in the complex.

TRIANA

Street square and neighborhood to visit
4.3/5
6 reviews

On the other side of the carretera del centro, we enter the Triana neighbourhood, which owes its name to the similarities it originally had with the homonymous neighbourhood of Seville. A century ago, this district was frequented by sailors and remained so until the construction of the La Luz wharf in the Isleta area. Today it is the city's shopping district par excellence, which is structured around Calle Mayor de Triana, a large pedestrian street with beautiful bourgeois buildings and numerous bars with terraces.

GUAYADEQUE BARRANCO

Natural site to discover
4.2/5
6 reviews

Le (or ravine) of Guayadeque is classified as a natural monument and a cultural interest. The road that gremlin at the bottom of the Barranco is magnificent, and follows the course of a rio seco with a lush nature, populated with many almond almonds in the spring. In the heart of the Barranco is Cueva Bermeja, a cave village of prehispanic origin. You will also see the chapel of San Bartolomé Apostol, carved in the mountain. Many testimonies of the pre-Hispanic civilization have been found, such as mummies and cave paintings.

Restaurants. Several restaurants and bars, placed in natural rock, offer local cuisine. We recommend you El Centro or Le Tagoror which offers authentic evenings with typical cuisine and to discover the folklore of the islands.

Hiking. An easy walk runs through the ravine and allows you to discover the natural and cultural riches of the site. The trail starts at km 2,2 of the GC 103 road, shortly after the centre, with interpretation and winds up to Cueva Bermeja. Count 3 hours return.
