Attention, the area's points of interest are fairly scattered and far away from the city centre.

From Thaton to Chiang Rai, you can take a motorboat trip down the river. Departure from the Pier at 10:30 a.m. daily. Please enquire the day before, before the boats are full (6 passengers). Passports may be checked by the Tourist Police before departure. Normally, a stop is made at Ruammit, two-thirds of the way along the route. If you're not keen on dugout canoeing, you can take a shared cab to Mae Salong.

This national park is recommended for lovers of wilderness. The summit of Khao Luang is at an altitude of 1,200 metres and the 4 km path leading to it is reserved for experienced athletes. For those who just want to enjoy the forest, the spectacular Sai Rung Falls, spread over 4 levels, offer the opportunity to swim. You have to walk almost a kilometre to reach them. Provide food, water and equipment before going to the site

The marble temple was built by order of King Rama V and completed in 1899. It is very famous because its chapel (bot), its pillars and its statues of lion keepers, are entirely made of white marble from Carrara (Italy). The bot's entrance is guarded by two Khmer style lions. Inside is a bronze replica (2.5 tons) of the Phutta Chinarat Buddha of Wat Phra Sri Ratana Mahatat of Phitsanulok. In its base are preserved the ashes of Rama V.

The film The Man with the Golden Gun put this tiny island on the map of international tourism and gave it its name, now almost official. Its peculiarity lies in a karstic piton that seems to defy gravity, facing a tiny beach. It's a compulsory stop on all circuits and, in high season, it's a rush to take a selfie in front of the rock. There are a few small shops on site selling souvenirs, cold drinks and snacks

Not far from the Thai Elephant Conservation Center, a privileged spot for nature observation (birds, deer). It is possible to camp on site, even to make mountain biking tours.

Camping and even rafting on the Wa River, depending on the season (water level).
