HOUSING WORKS USED BOOK CAFE

Caf philo et littraire

1 review

In this large old second-hand bookstore (there are 45,000 of them) there is a café where it is good to read, to escape the hustle and bustle of Soho. The place is particularly warm, with its large wooden staircase and shelves up to the ceiling that overflow with structures. The café library also organizes events, readings and book signings. She donates the profits to an association, Housing Works, which helps homeless people with AIDS.

Salsa, blues, jazz, rock... Whatever the program, people flock to the entrance of this nightclub. From Wednesday to Sunday, Café Wha's resident band plays hits from the 1970s to the 1990s. On Monday and Tuesday, two very popular special evenings take place: the Brazilian Dance Party and Tuesday Night Funk. This bar has been around for 40 years, a veteran of the New York scene that holds its own. Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan played here in their early days!

This is probably one of the most impressive shows in Las Vegas, and the one most locals recommend. This is the show that made Cirque du Soleil's reputation in Sin City. The circular letter is used as a diminutive for "water", the theme on which the entire show is based. Swimmers, divers and dancers follow one another in a 2.5-hour aquatic ballet on a stage that turns into a swimming pool. It's a good introduction to the shows put on by this internationally renowned Quebec company, and one that rarely leaves you disappointed.

Instantly recognizable by its green poster depicting a pretty witch with a pointed hat, this musical (winner of three Tony Awards) tells a story that is ancillary to the book The Wizard of Oz, inspired by the first novel in Gregory Maguire's book series. The costumes are enchanting, but the universe is not as childish as the poster suggests, the little ones may be a little scared by all these witch stories! Anyway, between the good and the evil witch, your heart will swing...

1 review

This permanent show by the hilarious Cirque du Soleil has been produced at the Mirage since 2006. Love had the good idea of not proposing a retrospective, but rather an experiment on the Beatles. Each of the Liverpool band's cult songs is illustrated by acrobatic scenes on a 360° stage, where an air of surreal poetry hovers. A multi-sensory journey that is psychedelic, captivating, immersive and technological. Spectacular, as always! At the helm: director Dominic Champagne.

Three blue-skinned, black-clad percussionists engage in strange experiments on stage: playing tom-tom while spraying themselves with acrylic, gobbling up as many marshmallows as possible without choking, developing a musical tune while crunching cereal, making a canvas by spitting paint... The show is punctuated by long drum riffs on piping systems. This show is perfect for a family outing. To enjoy the show and have the best view, it is advisable to take seats in rows A and B.

In the movie Coyote Girls, sexy barmaids dance on the bar, taking gentlemen's heads between their legs and sticking a bottle of booze in their mouths. The Coyote Ugly tries its hand at this game! Maui's most genuine luau. Open bar and buffet of traditional local dishes with, among other delicacies, lomi saumon salmon (tomato and onions-marinated salmon), beryllium poke (boiled soy marinated with lightly spicy soy) or haupia (coconut pudding). The key moments in Hawaii's history, the arrival of the Tahitiens at the beginning of tourism, are narrated through songs and dances. The dancers practise the two forms of hula, which is rare, the modern hula and the ancient hula, "kahikiko".

This historic building is said to have once housed a newspaper and then a brewery. Today, its huge industrial brick room serves as a bar-restaurant in the heart of downtown Lake Charles. The decoration is pop and colorful. The big bar invites you to settle down in the evening if you don't prefer the very pleasant terrace. As for the menu, it's simple but good. The sandwiches are copious and the pizzas very tasty. But if we also come there, it is for its shows presented every evening and which do not cost a penny.

Founded in 1964 by Mario Maglieri, Elmer Valentine and Phil Tanzini, this is a legendary venue where legendary bands from the Doors to the Kings, The New York Dolls and Led Zeppelin have performed. Guitars here are usually used to play hard rock. Although Whiskey A Go Go - purposely spelled without an "e", as 1960s Los Angeles laws forbade clubs to be named after liquor - is clearly living off its heritage, the independent bands that still perform on stage are worth a visit.

This small coffeeshop serves excellent coffee and welcomes the young and trendy population of Duluth.
