DOKCHEON RESTAURANT

Korean restaurant €€

In this restaurant well known to the people of Mokpo, the traditional yeonpo-tang soup is served. Initially it is prepared with beef but here it is cooked with octopus. Cooked mainly with oil and sesame seeds as well as green onions, it offers a perfect balance between the iodine of the octopus, the freshness of the vegetables and the greedy taste of sesame. Ideal for warming up in winter. Here, you dine Korean style, i.e. on the floor and take off your shoes at the entrance of the establishment (tap dance available).

88 SAENGSEON GUI

Korean restaurant

You won't have much choice here. On the menu: grilled fish (different varieties), ultra-fresh of the day, grilled on the embers in front of the greedy eyes of customers who can only salivate. Tasting tip: mix the wasabi in soy sauce (which in Asia is only salty) and dip a piece of fish in it. It's a real festival of flavours! Of course you have to be careful with the bones and for those who are not very agile with chopsticks, don't hesitate to use the spoon, it's there for that.

JEONGSEON MYEONOK

Korean restaurant

Noodles, noodles and more noodles! On the menu: they can be enjoyed in a vegetable broth flavoured with soya! You can also test the version in which they add mandu (steamed filled ravioli). It's greedy and delicious! Next to it, if you have a small space left, it is recommended to order a typical Korean pancake, the pajeon. Here (as in many places) it is prepared with seafood for an explosion in the mouth (and maybe also from the stomach, because it is a very generous dish)

HONAM RESTAURANT

Korean restaurant

Like all the other restaurants on this street, the menu here offers one of the specialties unique to the city of Daegu: the muchimhoe. It is a dish (served really generously) made of vegetables and fish cut into very thin strips. Unsurprisingly, the whole is drizzled with a sweet and sour sauce and beautiful red chilli peppers (also spicy). Sensitive palates abstain! But rest assured, the muchimhoe is served with a cold clam soup. Not only is it welcome as a counterbalance to the chilli pepper, it's delicious.

LE COIN BISTRO

Crperie

If you miss Breton flavours too much, you will find this little piece of France in Jeju. This creperie is run by a Frenchman who prepares authentic pancakes and cakes (salted or sweet) with buckwheat, but also croque-monsieur and fresh fruit juices. With its rooftop, its nice music and its chalk map of France with major monuments, this corner is very nice and will make you smile. And guess what. Here, no problem to communicate. We're taking a jump there just to support a fellow countryman.

YUKMOJEONG

Korean restaurant €€

This restaurant offers an exquisite version of the haemulgalbijjim (해물갈비찜), a spicy land-sea dish. Braised beef, vegetables and seafood combine to offer a culinary experience that surprises and detracts! If you don't like this particular duo, you can also order a beef barbecue, noodles, mandu (steamed ravioli stuffed with meat and vegetables)... Here you have the choice to eat on the floor, Korean style or on a table with chairs. A good address far from being excessively expensive.

TAM TAM

Vietnamese restaurant

On our culinary journey, here we take a break in Vietnam. Here you can enjoy the national dish par excellence, PHO (a fragrant broth accompanied by fine pieces of beef and vegetables). As an accompaniment, you can also order delicious nems and coconut shrimps. Vietnamese cuisine is coriander, ginger, Thai basil... all for a real explosion of flavours. To push the discovery further, we recommend a refreshing juice of kalamansi, a small Asian citrus fruit.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you love beef from every angle, then feel free to push open the door to this barbecue restaurant. In small pieces, in strips, marinated or simply salted, you will be able to revel in the tasty beef that will be served to you. Note that the tartar is also very good. Some noodle dishes can also be ordered (yukgae ramyeon or doenjang ramyeon). In a very good restaurant which is certainly not the cheapest but which is easily forgiven once the dishes in the mouth.

BOKKEUMI GEUMCHEONJEOM

The star dish that can be enjoyed in this establishment is jjukkumi/쭈꾸미. This is a very spicy pan of small octopus. It is a real treat in terms of both colour and flavour. We like the fact that in this restaurant various menus/sets are offered. To make it simpler, with your jjukkumi dish, you can choose noodles, salad, peacock (Korean pancake) or pizza... They are all very mild to counterbalance the chilli pepper of the main course. Very good address at very reasonable prices, highly recommended.

KYOCHON CHICKEN

Takeaway food
Recommended by a member

This sign is really popular all over the country, and there's good reason for that, because the fried chicken that you can taste there is simply divine. Crunchy and crispy, the pieces of meat are covered with a choice of soy sauce, honey, garlic or simply plain. On the side, to accompany this good chicken, cheese coated fries and other small snacks are offered. You have the possibility to taste all this on the spot or to ask to take away. Still quite a lot of people are expected here, so a little waiting too.

If you like chicken and want to eat it in a slightly original way, out of the ordinary, then you've come to the right place. Among the various dishes on offer, the one that particularly caught our attention is a tray containing fine pieces of roast chicken, caramelized and spicy peppers and onions, tortillas, sauces (guacamole, yoghurt, cheese, barbecue, spicy). You will have understood the concept, you fill your tortillas as you wish. Very good address, quite crowded on weekends.

HANWOO SEOLLEONGTANG

Korean restaurant

This place is perfect to taste a classic of Korean gastronomy, the seolleongtang (설렁탕). This clear soup is prepared with beef bone broth, tasty pieces of meat and green onions. Not very strong in taste (compared to other Korean dishes), everyone can season it according to his or her desires and tastes (with garlic, chilli pepper...). Although this restaurant offers a very good version of it, we regret a little that it is not open in the evening. So for lunch, it's a very good option.

3MK

Spanish restaurant €€

Mediterranean cuisine that smells like sunshine in Asia is possible. At the 3MK you have the possibility to taste typical dishes of the Spanish gastronomy. In particular, we recommend one of the paellas on the menu, especially the one with dry ink, which is a real treat. Wines or beers on the menu to go with it all. We know the Koreans' passion for European gastronomy and we can say that they do it justice. A modern kitchen, a few tapas, all for a most caliente evening.

YEONSANSIJANG DOTORIMUK

Korean restaurant

Here, one of the city's specialities is deliciously declined. You will discover and appreciate the flavour of muk (gelatine made from acorns). It can be eaten with rice, in a hot soup with seaweed and pork or in a cold broth flavoured with soya and sesame. A little extra of the establishment, the kitchen in the middle of the building is open to the guests' eyes. So you can salivate while watching the preparation of the dishes that will be (quickly) served to you. A good address, surprising and at a low price.

DAESANBORIBAP

Korean restaurant
Recommended by a member

This restaurant is a real local celebrity where people flock in large numbers to enjoy a tasty boribap (보리밥). First cousin of the bibimbap, it is composed like him of many vegetables and gochujang (chilli paste) but with the particularity of containing barley. It's healthy, it satisfies and it's good! With that, we can count on the presence of the banchan, always faithful to the post, but also on a doenjangjjigae, a fermented soy stew. Excellent address that should be tested if you are in this city.
