GIBBON REHABILITATION PROJECT
Read moreBeware, gibbons are in danger! There are a thousand and one ways to bring back a nice souvenir from your trip to Thailand. Having your photo taken with a gibbon is not one of them! Exploited and mistreated by unscrupulous owners who don't hesitate to slaughter the mother to get her young back, the species is now threatened with extinction. Since 1992, a law has prohibited the sale, purchase and possession of wild animals, particularly as tourist attractions for the purpose of making a profit. To help the local authorities in their work, the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project (GRP), in association with the Wild Animal Rescue Foundation of Thailand (WARF), is working to save and reintroduce the gibbon into its natural environment. What applies to the gibbon also applies to other species, such as iguanas and slow lorises. So don't encourage poachers by having your photo taken with these animals. To find out more about this association's work and support them in their difficult mission, visit their website or, if you're in the north-east of the island, take a trip to the Phuket Gibbons Centre in the heart of Khao Pra Theaw National Park. It's a very interesting visit to this center for the rehabilitation of gibbons, formerly in captivity and now being reintroduced into their natural environment. So help save the gibbons!
