ANNIVERSAIRE DU ROI VAJIRALONGKORN (RAMA X)

Official festival

It's a new public holiday created in 2017, adding to the many already on the Thai calendar. The date marks the birthday of the new King Vajiralongkorn (also known as Rama X), who took over as head of the country following the death of his father on October 13, 2016. On this occasion, the Prime Minister gives alms to hundreds of monks on the esplanade of the Grand Palace and expresses his best wishes to the king. Shows dedicated to the king are held throughout the country. On this day, it's a good idea to wear yellow, the royal color.
