THE WINDWARD/LEEWARD DWELLING
Read moreLocated in front of the Caribbean Sea, the Côte-sous-le-Vent house is a park dedicated to this region sheltered from the winds and ideally located, considered as the granary of Guadeloupe in more than one way. Pointe-Noire is the cradle of wood craftsmen and age-old traditions of the Antilles. The town is also called the capital of wood in Guadeloupe. And it is precisely on the former site of the wood house, in a completely refurbished house, that you will find all the riches of the island that you will be able to discover during a trip out of time: its precious woods, its arboretum with its hundred-year-old trees to be discovered in the bend of a path marked out with didactic panels for each specimen, its cocoa, its coffee, its spices... The lovers of pretty flowers will walk in the middle of orchids and bromeliads with the access to a typical Creole house. Educational spaces will make you discover the local crafts, their manufacturing secrets and of course the magnificent flora of Guadeloupe. An exceptional exhibition on the world of piracy will make you discover that the Côte-sous-le-Vent was a high place of filibustering in the 17th century! Outdoor games allow you to discover or rediscover the typical games of the West Indies, to climb in the pirate Kaz (a tree house) and to watch with the long sight if the enemy approaches! A coffee or chocolate-peyi tasting is offered at the end of the visit.
