MONTEBELLO DISTILLERY
Distillery offering a tour of the cane treatment process, and rum tasting in the boutique.
One of the most famous distilleries of the archipelago. It was founded in 1930, with the oldest machines. The family business has been able to develop outside the West Indies, to reach a nice commercial dimension in France. In Petit-Bourg, the traditional activity continues. In 1966, Jean Marsolle and his son Alain bought the distillery whose production in the crushing workshop did not exceed 3 tons per hour! After working for the Sainte-Marthe company and the Gardel sugar factory, Alain Marsolle began his career as a distiller. Montebello rums will be marketed from 1975, when new equipment was purchased. Since the end of 2011, the fourth generation, Grégory and Dominique, of the Marsolle family has been at the head of the Montebello distillery. Even today, 90% of the Montebello distillery's production comes from cane harvested by hand by small producers. These growers work on the volcanic soil of La Soufrière volcano without any inputs or pesticides.
During the visit of this family unit, you will discover the process of treatment of the cane, from its distillation to its aging in barrels. The visit ends with the essential shop and the tasting of rums. You will find the classic agricultural white rum (but also various vintages) including "The Bolokos", liqueurs, punches, old amber rums including the Montebello Jack 42% of 10 years, matured in Jack Daniel's barrels.
