LE FORT RISBAN

Local history and culture
3.5/5
2 reviews

The place is ideal: Fort Risban is originally a fortified island erected to lock the port of Calais and to prevent any attack from the enemy. It was taken over by the English in the 14th century who built the Lancaster tower still visible today in the munitions ware house. Then the French won against the Spanish here in the 16th century and the Germans made this place a link of the Atlantic wall during the Second World War. The walls of the fort have recently been renovated and are an outpost of the history of the engagements and invasions that shook the city.

CAMBLAIN CHATELAIN

Site of archaeology crafts and science and technology

In the th century archaeological excavations revealed the presence of a Gallo-Roman village named Cambella at the location of the city. It is said that Sir, a return of crusade, became mad when he found his wife and his lover, and killed them. He built a Moorish castle and replaced his wife with a harem. Unfortunately, nothing remains of the castle, partially destroyed in 1824 and razed to 1967. However, there is still a lithograph the representative before 1824. The village of Camblain, although quite extensive, has few inhabitants. The woods are spread over 25 hectares, of which 3 hectares on the site of the commune which set up a leisure park, and the upper Chemin des Cailloux offers an interesting panorama of the surroundings. The Saint-Vaast church of the th century is still standing and still receiving visitors. You will also be able to visit the chapel and calvary, built in late th century, the th century mill that used to serve grain and its twin, the paper mill, both on the Clarence's shores.
