In 1855, at the time of the classification ordered by Napoleon III, Château Coutet was officially recognized as one of the Premiers Grands Crus of Sauternes and Barsac. Since 1977, the Baly family has owned the estate and undertaken a renewal of the vineyard and farm buildings. In 2010, Château Coutet launched its first vintage of Opalie, a great dry white wine.
