Who doesn't know today the famous Goudale, the flagship product of Les Brasseurs de Gayant? It takes its name from the Middle Ages when good beers were called goudale or good ale (in English) produced not by the cervoisier or brewer but by the goudalier.
The brewery was created in 1929 in Douai following the reunion of four local breweries. Its name refers to the two giants of the city, Madame and Monsieur Gayant. The company was bought in 1955 by the d'Aubreby family before being sold a few years ago by André Pecqueur, the owner of the Saint-Omer brewery. Following this purchase, the brewery moved to Arques in the Pas-de-Calais.
The historic brewery had the particularity of having a micro-brewery where numerous trials and new recipes could be tested. This is how Goudale was born!

The brewery was created in 2014. It is installed in the renovated dependencies of a former farm. The brewer's will is to produce authentic and traditional beers in the heart of this region to the rich brewing past. Thibaut Delamaide, after 10 years in National Education, is embarking on adventure. His biochemist training helps him control manufacturing processes. The name of the brewery refers to the megalithic site of the 7 Bonnettes.

Jean-René Lesage is the creator of the Pas-de-Calais micro-brewery. He is above all a man of passion. Trained in biochemistry, he worked a time for the brewery of Saint-Omer. After his dismissal, he followed a training in Lille (ISA) before setting up a company to advise existing breweries. He then decides to start brewing his own beers in a farm in this beautiful valley. This is how the «Sournoise» emerged. The name is voluntarily "funny" as he himself says this good living brewer.

He is a talented and passionate brewer who produces a range of artisanal beers. The adventure began in 2007 in Auchy-les-Mines (62). The brewery then moved to Haisnes. The beers are all high fermentation and have a prolonged guard to respect the brewing tradition of the region. The annual production shall not exceed 900 hectolitres. The imposing brewery located in the heart of downtown Saint-Omer is the industrial lung of the city. It has a unique history. Its CEO, André Pecqueur, is a passionate man. He bought his brewery from the Heineken group, which is now dedicated to the production of private label beers but also to more special beers. It is one of the biggest breweries in the region with more than 2 million hectolitres produced each year. To complete its range, the manager bought the Brasseurs de Gayant, which were based in Douai and moved them to Arques, a few kilometres from Saint-Omer.

This place is at the same time a cellar and bar, this shop is managed by Manuel and proposes to you, on 500 square metres, an impressive selection of beers and wines, rhums and whiskies... At the bottom of the shop, you can relax on a bar area, available the whole day or for thematic evening where you have the occasion of wine tasting. This is an association of beer enthusiasts who love to share this divine drink. For 30 years, this group of amateurs has been living the site through their newsletters, their guild, their visits, their fairs, their fairs, their information about the foam, their conferences… More than 500 members (about two thirds of them in the Nord-Pas de Calais) have already been conquered. Only high-stem apple trees on the slopes are selected for this exceptional vintage, classified as a better raw cider in the North Pas De Calais and Picardie, medalist at the Pomexpo exhibition of Villeneuve-d'Ascq. The apples of the 7 valleys and the Montreuillois give a taste of a cider from 4,1 ° to 5 °, depending on the years, with a good balance between bitterness and fruity, slightly crude. It serves as the basis for the production of the Flip, an old recipe in Pas-de-Calais - so ask the producer who will guide you in person during your visit! To prolong the pleasures you can also discover the brandy of cider, a recipe developed since 1995.
