Access by RN 76 Bourges/Vierzon/Tours, and by RN 20 Vierzon/Châteauroux. Exit Saint-Hilaire, 6 km from Saint-Georges.Saint-Georges-sur-la-Prée is crossed by two rivers: The Cher on 4.8 kilometers and the Pree that flows into the Cher in Saint-Loup. The municipality is old: It already existed in the time of Charlemagne at the time we built the Benedictine Abbey of Dèvres. In the church of the Abbey under the term of Saint George, in 843, the Archbishop of Bourges Saint Raoul transferred the relics of Saint Perpétue. The monks, after the plundering by the Normands in 903, founded Vierzon's abbey and carried these relics. The municipality of Saint-Georges-sur-la-Prée has changed its name several times. In 1422, she was named Sanctus Georgius de Pradea, then in 1442 Saint-Georges-de-la-Prehee who changed in 1467 to become Saint-Georges-Souls-la-Prehee. In the course of the French Revolution, the commune temporarily carried the names of Mountain-sur-la-Prée or Equality-Prée.A former ocrier site can now be visited by the Ore Museum, which recalls that the ochre quarries of Saint-Georges-sur-la-Prée have been exploited from the Middle Ages. At the time, this natural pigment was used for frescoes. A rebuilt in 2007 by subscription to the population, the castle of Rozay (which is not visiting but whose surroundings can be seen) and the pleasant edges of the Cher complement the tourist attraction of the commune.
