In the northern Gambia region, Niumi National Park extends over a coastal strip of almost 50 km2 at the southern tip of the Sine-Saloum delta. It is home to a remarkable ecosystem of freshwater marshes, sand spits, brackish lagoons and mudflats, surrounded by beautiful mangrove forests. With over 200 recorded bird species, it is an important refuge for avifauna. The park is also home to numerous mammals, including patas monkeys, vervets, warthogs and spotted hyenas, as well as endangered species such as the green turtle, manatee, humpback dolphin and green turtle.
