Travel Guide Kakanj

Kakanj/Какањ (pronounced "kakagne") has a population of about 11,000, 86% of whom are Bosniaks. It is the capital of the municipality of Kakanj (population 38,000), in the Zenica-Doboj canton. The city is located 24 km southeast of Zenica and 48 km northeast of Sarajevo(via Visoko). Bus/train connections to Zenica and Sarajevo.Crossed by the Bosna river, this industrial city (power station, cement factory...) was an important human center in the Neolithic period with the so-called "Kakanj culture". Today it is of little interest, except for its surroundings with, in particular, the royal city of Bobovac and the superb protected area of Mount Tajan.
