Šipovo/Шипово (pronounced "chipovo") is the capital of the municipality of Šipovo (population 10,000), which is part of the Serbian Republic of Bosnia. There are seven daily bus connections to Banja Luka and Jajce. Dominated by mountains that rise to 1,906 meters above sea level, the small town is surrounded by forests and located at the confluence of the Pliva and Janj rivers, two rivers that are as short as they are powerful. The latter destroyed almost everything. The refugees who came back then relied on ecotourism with homestays. However, the construction of two hydroelectric plants risks to transform irremediably the course of the Pliva and the Janj.
