Vitez/Витез has a population of about 6,000, of which 55% are Bosnian-Croats and 40% are Bosnians. It is the capital of the municipality of Vitez (25,000 inhabitants), in the canton of Central Bosnia. There are frequent bus connections to Jajce, Bugojno, Travnik, Zenica and Sarajevo.Despite its medieval origins and its name which means "knight", this small town has developed especially since 1950 around the explosives factory Vitezit, very famous in the military world. Along the Lašva River, the town center is dominated by the Ahmed-Aga Mosque (1590), the Catholic Church of St. George (1900), and, a little further on, the Čardaci folk village.
