Livno/Ливно has a population of about 8,000, of which 62% are Bosnian-Croats and 33% are Bosniaks. It is the capital of Livno municipality (32,000 inhabitants) and "Canton 10" (80,000 inhabitants), in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city is 96 km northeast of Split (Croatia), 120 km northwest of Mostar, 176 km southeast of Bihać, 189 km west of Sarajevo. Bus connections: see bus station.Closely linked to Croatia, the capital of the province of Tropolje is still relatively undeveloped for tourism. However, it has many assets, starting with its beautiful environment: the Livno polje. The largest karst plain in the world, it is framed by the massifs of Kamešnica (1,852 m altitude), to the south, along the Croatian border, and Cincar (2,006 m), to the north. The latter ends abruptly with the cliffs of Bašajkovac directly above the old Ottoman quarter of Livno, which retains the largest set of Ottoman domed mosques completely preserved in the country. A paradox for this city which is a powerful Catholic and Bosnian-Croat bastion. The Franciscan monks enjoy here a large aura and own what is for us the most beautiful museum in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with varied and well displayed collections. Livno is also famous for its cheese and, in recent years, for its wild horses, which can be easily approached under Mount Cincar.
