Also known as Duvno/Дувно, the town is the capital of the municipality of Tomislavgrad (population 31,000), which is part of Canton 10. It is 32 km south of Kupres, 40 km southeast of Livno, 65 km west of Jablanica, and 99 km northeast of Split (Croatia). Bus connections: see bus station.Located in the Duvno polje (121 km2), Tomislavgrad is historically one of the richest cities in the country. Unfortunately, this is not reflected in its architecture. The only ancient monument is the Džudža-Džafer mosque, erected in 1615, and whose cemetery houses about 30 nişans from the 19th century. The rest of the town was rebuilt after the Allied bombing in 1944. Tomislavgrad is located 9 km southeast of Delminium, which was the capital of the Dalmatians. Taking its present location in Roman times, the city was named Duvno. In 679, the assembly of Duvno marked the first major division between Rome and Constantinople, which divided the bishoprics between them. The city was then called Županjac, a term that designates the fief of a župan (vassal) of the dukes of Croatia. The first Croatian king, Tomislav, was crowned here in 925. A thousand years later, in 1925, the town was renamed Tomislavgrad ("Tomislav's town"), before the socialist authorities imposed the old name of Duvno until 1991.
